Tinea Versicolar



Dermatophytic Fungus 



Tinea Versicolar    It is  a  skin fungal infection, caused by Malassezia globosa and Malasssezia furfur .  It appears white powdery rashes and hypopigmentation overthe trunk and proximal extremities of epidermis  during warm and humid environment.

It is also called as Pityriasis versicolar / Dermatomycosis furfuraceae .


On KOH examination of skin scrapings, it typically appears as septate fungal hyphae with yeast forms combined together like “ spaghetti and Meat balls”

Modified ZN stain : Nocardia sp

Here I'm sharing a modified Ziehl-Neelsen stained smear of Nocardia - (A ray fungi)   isolated from  a pulmonary abscess.
